DIY For a Sweeter Life

DIY For a Sweeter Life

A few weeks back, I was discussing with my sister the momentous subject of, are you ready for it? Dishclothes. This time of year they are gross, no doubt about it. I guess it is the cumulative affect of much use and humid weather so that they don’t dry out well and the bacteria starts to grow and Grow and GROW! Repeated washing will not help. I here want to offer you the life-changing solution. I can guarantee it will make your life sweeter. No backing to that guarantee though, you might just be contrary and I can’t do anything about that.  And on top of a better life, this has the added advantage of being much greener than, say, buying new or using bleach (which doesn’t necessarily solve the problem anyway) So here it is: Put some water in a...

Out of Hot Water

Out of Hot Water

We never were really in hot water but we sure are out of hot water right now. Last week’s flooding completely submerged our furnace. It is the only thing of real value to be destroyed by the rising waters. Frankly, I had no idea that being submerged would ‘total’ our furnace so I was not particularly distressed about it. But now we find the furnace needs to be replaced. And I also find that I really do like having running hot water, because at the moment, we do not. The furnace was our source of hot water. To find oneself in this situation, we have a marvelous set up though. The apartment part of our house has an electric hot water heater. Our generous tenant doesn’t appear to mind that we pop in every now and then to shower. So overall, we...

Children’s Storytime, September 4, 2011

Last Sunday was the final Summer Sunday, in which we had no Sunday School. This week was back to normal schedule. Life intervened with getting this posted; honestly, there were more fun and exciting things to do! Anyway… Last Sunday I chose to read two stories about Hudson Taylor instead of just one. I am not sure that was the wisest choice, it just might have been too much! Oh well, water over the dam. My arsenal included: the Bible, Hero Tales and the Ipad. I started out by asking them the question “Are you ever afraid of anything?” Of course that is a rather rhetorical question but it led into introducing the thought that God is aware that fear is something we experience and he gives us help to overcome it. I read Psalms 57:1 for them, since...

Water

Water

Right now, we are getting rain. And a lot of it. It was a sneaky flood. At least it caught me off guard. I had never seen so much water in our basement. Of course, we have only been here about 9 years, but nothing even close to this amount before. Only one other time, shortly after we moved here, did we see water spouting into our basement quite like this! But it did provide quite a bit of good fun for us. That is not to try and minimize the terrible impact it has had on many people. My thoughts and prayers go out for those who are reaping a lot of negative from this. This is the outside overflow from our basement. For those of you who don’t know, we do have an open spring in our basement that is always running, sometimes very lightly to be sure, but this...
